KATHMANDU: The official trailer of the much-awaited Nepali feature film ‘Woolen Sweater’ (‘Unko Sweater’) was launched on Tuesday at a grand event held at the Nepal Academy (Pragya Pratishthan) in Kathmandu.

The film is set for a worldwide release on Baisakh 26 (May 9).

The trailer unveiling was followed by a powerful live performance by popular singer Sujan Chapagain and his band Sujan Chapagain & Infinity, in the presence of journalists, celebrities, and distinguished guests.

Produced by Artmandu Pvt. Ltd., ‘Woolen Sweater’ is the company’s debut feature film. It is a realistic social drama shot in the picturesque landscapes of Panchthar in eastern Nepal.

Director Naveen Chauhan revealed that the film’s narrative stretches from Panchthar all the way to the India-West Bengal border, reflecting a broad socio-cultural canvas.

“From the moment I dreamt of making this film to this trailer launch today, the journey has been full of challenges. What started as a dream of one person has now become a dream of hundreds,” Chauhan expressed.

Lead actor Bipin Karki, who plays a central role in the film, recalled his experiences in Panchthar and extended heartfelt thanks to all those who supported the journey.

He encouraged audiences to believe in the artistic excellence of ‘Woolen Sweater’, likening its quality to the widely appreciated songs of Artmandu.

Lead actress Miruna Magar, who portrays the character Phulu Gurung, said she hopes to deliver the same warmth to the audience as suggested by the title ‘Woolen Sweater’. She believes viewers will be transported into a unique cinematic world created by Artmandu.

Actress Bhavana Khapangi Magar described herself as one of the colorful threads woven into the film’s narrative, while actress Pariksha Limbu expressed joy at rejoining the film’s promotions a year later.

She called it a privilege to be part of Director Chauhan’s cinematic canvas.

Actor Alex Paras shared his happiness about watching the film together with the cast and crew, while Suraj Tamule reflected on the film as a joyful and meaningful journey in his career.

Music director and singer Sujan Chapagain reflected on the emotional highs and lows throughout the production and urged the audience to give the film the same love they’ve shown his music.

The film’s soundtrack, composed by Chapagain and Jhuma Limbu, complements its powerful storytelling.

‘Woolen Sweater’ features a stellar cast including Bipin Karki, Miruna Magar, Alex Paras, Pariksha Limbu, Suraj Tamule, Bhavana Khapangi Magar, Wilson Bikram Rai, Sunil Pokharel, Mao Tse Gurung, and Prem Subba. Written and directed by Naveen Chauhan, the film is a heartfelt portrayal of Nepal’s cultural richness, social contradictions, and the vibrant tapestry of everyday life.
