KATHMANDU: Authorities have seized and destroyed a large quantity of illegally produced homemade liquor in Nakkhu Khola area of Lalitpur Metropolitan City–25.

Several individuals had been residing in makeshift huts along the riverbank and were reportedly involved in the illicit production and sale of alcohol.

Acting on a tip-off, a team from the Bhaisepati-Bungamati Police Post, led by Officer-in-Charge Inspector Shashidhar Sharma, conducted a raid on the rented land owned by Purushottam Tuladhar.

During the search operation carried out on Tuesday, police discovered around 100 liters of illegal homemade liquor and over 1,270 units of raw materials used in its production.

Inspector Sharma stated that the confiscated liquor and raw materials, which were deemed unfit for consumption, were buried in a pit with the help of an excavator (JCB) and destroyed on-site.

He emphasized that consuming such substandard alcohol poses serious health risks and that the production and sale of such items are punishable by law.

Among those involved was Rabina Tamang, a permanent resident of Kavrepalanchok district, currently living in Nakkhu.

She, along with others, was warned and urged not to engage in illegal activities in the future.

Inspector Sharma reiterated the police’s commitment to maintaining peace and order under the campaign “Every Patrol, Every Village, Every Town,” and vowed to take firm action against activities that disturb social harmony.
