KATHMANDU: The ‘Customs Bill, 2081’ has been passed by a majority vote in the House of Representatives during Tuesday’s parliamentary session.

Following a detailed deliberation on the bill, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel tabled the proposal for its endorsement.

The majority of lawmakers expressed their support for the bill.

Responding to questions raised during the theoretical discussion, Minister Paudel stated that the bill aims to amend and consolidate existing customs laws in order to eliminate irregularities at customs points.

He emphasized that the main objective of the bill is to curb revenue leakage, reduce irregularities, and ensure that traders are not harassed at customs checkpoints.

He also extended his gratitude to the lawmakers who provided constructive suggestions to enhance the bill.

“There should be no irregularities at customs points. Our revenue should not be leaked, and traders should not face difficulties. We’ve received suggestions on how to make customs operations more effective in terms of equipment and resources,” said Minister Paudel. “I thank all the honorable members for their valuable input.”

Minister Paudel expressed confidence that once enacted into law, the bill will significantly reduce revenue leakage and make cross-border trade more efficient.
