KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress lawmaker Dev Prasad Timilsina has called for a constitutional amendment to place school teachers under the federal government, expressing readiness among all lawmakers to support the move.

Speaking during Tuesday’s session of the House of Representatives, Timilsina emphasized that the demands of teachers have been raised numerous times and urged the government to fulfill them as much as possible in order to create an environment for teachers to return to schools.

He stated that teachers are against being kept under the jurisdiction of local governments and suggested that the only way to address their concerns is to amend the constitution.

Timilsina claimed that all 275 members of the House of Representatives are willing to sign and support such an amendment.

Highlighting that current opposition parties have themselves been in government in the past, he criticized their insincere expressions of sympathy, calling them “crocodile tears.”
