KATHMANDU: CPN-UML lawmaker Thakur Gaire has emphasized the need for a collective commitment from both the ruling and opposition parties to address the legitimate demands of teachers across the country.

Speaking at Tuesday’s session of the House of Representatives, MP Gaire stated that neither the ruling side can shift blame to the opposition, nor can the opposition hold the ruling party solely accountable when it comes to resolving the ongoing issues in the education sector.

He pointed out that despite the opposition leading the Ministry of Education for a significant period and even chairing the parliamentary committee on education, it failed to finalize the much-anticipated Education Act.

Gaire also criticized the handling of recent protests, saying that triggering clashes between security personnel and teachers on the streets and creating a situation where injuries occur cannot be a solution.

He stressed the urgency of fulfilling the legitimate demands of teachers while ensuring that the ongoing disruption to regular academic activities is resolved through constructive cooperation.
