Pregnant teen rescued by army chopper
Pushpa Bohara Bhandari, who was in her eighth month of pregnancy, was rescued this morning.

KATHMANDU: A 16-year-old pregnant girl from Thehe village in Simkot Rural Municipality-2, Humla, was airlifted today by a Nepal Army helicopter for emergency medical treatment.
Pushpa Bohara Bhandari, who was in her eighth month of pregnancy, was rescued this morning from the district headquarters, Simkot, after experiencing serious health complications, according to Dr. Pratiksha Bharti, chief of the Health Service Office in Humla.
Bhandari had suddenly developed high blood pressure on Sunday, and due to the lack of adequate medical facilities in the district, she was referred to the Provincial Hospital in Surkhet.
Upon examination at the Humla District Hospital, doctors found not only excessive bleeding but also fetal malposition—where the baby’s position was abnormal. Instead of the baby’s head being positioned forward as required, the shoulder was found to be leading.
Given the limited resources, equipment, and skilled personnel in Humla, an emergency evacuation was arranged.
The rescue operation was carried out with coordination between the District Hospital, Simkot Rural Municipality, the Health Service Office, and the District Administration Office.
The mission was funded under the President Women Upliftment Fund, run by the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens.
Bhandari was immediately flown to Surkhet, where she is now receiving treatment at the Provincial Hospital.
The program has been hailed as a lifesaving intervention for pregnant women in remote Humla, where lack of infrastructure and medical staff makes childbirth a life-threatening event.
