KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chief Whip Gyan Bahadur Shahi has criticized the government, stating that its failure to introduce the Education Act reflects its incapability to govern the country effectively.

Speaking at Tuesday’s session of the House of Representatives, Shahi remarked, “Governments and systems have changed repeatedly, yet this government has failed to introduce even a basic Education Act. Claiming to run the country under such circumstances is nothing more than a daydream.”

He expressed concern over how the tradition of shutting down schools during protests and conflicts has deprived children from poor families of their right to education. “Public schools are for children from underprivileged families. Today, they are being excluded from education due to strikes in the name of movements, wars, and student politics,” he said.

Shahi further pointed out that despite frequent changes in government and political systems, there has been no meaningful reform in education policy. “The country cannot move forward with the current education policy,” he added.

He also demanded the dissolution of political affiliate organizations of teachers, students, and medical professionals, arguing that government employees should serve the nation rather than engage in politics. “Organizations of teachers, students, and doctors affiliated with political parties must be dissolved,” Shahi asserted.
