KATHMANDU: Opposition parties in Nepal have strongly objected to the exclusion of an urgent motion concerning teachers’ demands from Tuesday’s House of Representatives agenda.

The motion, which was registered on Monday, highlights growing concerns over the government’s alleged indifference to the longstanding issues raised by the education sector.

The motion was tabled by Chief Whip of the main opposition party, CPN (Maoist Centre), Hit Raj Pandey. It has received backing from major opposition figures, including Santosh Pariyar, Chief Whip of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, Sher Bahadur Kunwar of the CPN (Unified Socialist), Janata Samajbadi Party chair Prabhu Sah, and Rastriya Janamorcha chair Chitra Bahadur K.C.

Speaking during Tuesday’s parliamentary session, Pandey accused the government of prioritizing superficial matters over critical national issues. “Instead of addressing the legitimate concerns of teachers, the government is busy dealing with water and boots,” Pandey said, alluding to what he described as the state’s misplaced priorities.

He urged the Speaker of the House to direct the government to allow deliberation on the motion, calling it essential for both democracy and public accountability.

Opposition leaders further criticized the government for its continued negligence toward protesting doctors who have also been voicing their concerns over professional rights and working conditions for an extended period.

As discontent grows across multiple professional sectors, opposition lawmakers are calling for immediate attention and dialogue, warning of escalating unrest if the government fails to act decisively.
