Contempt case against NC leader Thapa presented at SC
Among the 14 cases scheduled for today, the contempt case against Thapa was listed first.

KATHMANDU: A contempt of court case filed against Nepali Congress General Secretary and Member of Parliament Gagan Thapa was presented today before a division bench of Acting Chief Justice Sapana Malla Pradhan and Justice Nityananda Pandey at the Supreme Court.
Among the 14 cases scheduled for today, the contempt case against Thapa was listed first.
Advocates Bishal Thapa, Anantaraj Luintel, and Pratibha Upreti filed the case on Sunday, accusing Thapa of undermining the dignity of the judiciary.
The petition comes in response to remarks made by Thapa last Thursday, in which he alleged that the Supreme Court had engaged in a “deal” regarding 52 unresolved cases related to appointments of constitutional officials.
Thapa had criticized the Court for failing to deliver verdicts in these pending cases, even as the terms of various commission officials were nearing an end. He questioned the credibility of the judiciary over its handling of these appointments.
Currently, the Supreme Court is deliberating on disputes concerning the appointment of officials in 52 constitutional bodies.
