KATHMANDU: The latest round of talks between the Government of Nepal and the protesting teachers, held on Monday night at the Ministry of Education, concluded without a concrete agreement.

Despite the lack of resolution, both parties have agreed to continue the dialogue.

The meeting, led by Education Minister Raghuji Pant on behalf of the government and chaired by Laxmikishor Subedi, president of the Teachers’ Federation, failed to reach a final consensus on key demands. However, Minister Panta described the discussions as moving in a “positive direction.”

“Some issues are still pending, but the talks have progressed positively,” said Panta following the meeting.

Subedi also acknowledged that while discussions were held on several topics, many crucial matters remain unresolved. “We had extensive discussions at the ministry, but no conclusion was reached. Our movement will continue,” he stated after emerging from the talks.

The Cabinet had earlier entrusted Minister Panta with the responsibility of leading negotiations with the teachers.

The ongoing protests, which began on Chaitra 20, have centered around demands including reforms in the School Education Act and other educational concerns.

Speaking after the Cabinet meeting on Monday, Government Spokesperson and Minister for Communication and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung assured that the teachers’ demands would be addressed by Wednesday.
