Maoist Centre demands urgent parliament debate on teachers’ & doctors’ protests
The proposal specifically calls for discussions involving the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Health and Population.

KATHMANDU: The opposition party, CPN (Maoist Centre), has submitted a notice for an urgent motion of public importance in the House of Representatives, calling for parliamentary discussion on the ongoing protests by teachers and medical professionals.
Chief Whip of the Maoist Centre, Hit Raj Pandey, filed the motion at the parliamentary secretariat, expressing concern over what he described as the government’s disregard for the demands of educators and healthcare workers advocating for their professional rights.
The motion has garnered support from several other parties. Santosh Pariyar, Chief Whip of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP); Sher Bahadur Kunwar, Member of Parliament from CPN (Unified Socialist); Prabhu Sah, Chairperson of the Aam Janata Party; and Chitra Bahadur KC, Chairperson of the Rastriya Janamorcha, have all backed the initiative.
The proposal specifically calls for discussions involving the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Health and Population.
It outlines multiple reasons why the motion is necessary, including the government’s failure to implement previous agreements made with the Nepal Teachers’ Federation.
“The government’s indifference towards a crucial sector like school education is a clear sign of irresponsibility,” the motion states.
“Despite significant demands raised by teachers across various levels — from local and provincial governments to national party offices — and even after relay hunger strikes at the Education and Human Resource Development Centre, the government has shown no serious response.”
It further highlights that the disruption of education for millions of students, delays in scheduled examinations, and the need to enforce decisions made by the Medical Education Commission are reasons that warrant immediate parliamentary discussion.
The motion also emphasizes the importance of enhancing the quality and accessibility of healthcare services across the country.
