KATHMANDU: A contempt of court case has been filed against Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa.

According to Supreme Court spokesperson Achyut Kuikel, the case has been registered, and a hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.

The case follows Thapa’s comments during a program held on the occasion of Democracy Day, where he expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in the appointment of officials to constitutional bodies.

Thapa stated that the Supreme Court had “delayed” the matter, questioning the credibility of the Court’s actions and raising concerns about the failure to appoint officers to commissions despite their terms expiring.

Thapa’s remarks, perceived as an affront to the judiciary, led lawyer Vishal Thapa, among others, to file a contempt of court petition against him.

The appointment dispute involving officials from five constitutional bodies is currently under consideration by the Supreme Court.
