Lawmakers urge swift action on teachers’ demands, school bill

KATHMANDU: Lawmakers in today’s National Assembly meeting stressed the urgent need to finalize the long-pending School Education Bill and create a conducive environment for returning protesting teachers to classrooms.

Highlighting the ongoing teachers’ agitation, now in its 26th day, several lawmakers called on the government to address their legitimate demands through meaningful dialogue.

Lawmaker Ganga Kumari Belbase emphasized the importance of presenting the School Education Bill in the parliament at the earliest and urged the government to resolve the teachers’ concerns through negotiations.

Echoing similar sentiments, Lawmaker Gopi Bahadur Achhami also advocated for dialogue-based solutions to the teachers’ protest. He further drew the government’s attention to unresolved issues affecting microfinance victims and cooperative depositors.

Lawmaker Maya Prasad Sharma noted that since (Chaitra 20), teachers have taken to the streets demanding the enactment of the School Education Act.

He urged the government to prioritize restoring normalcy in schools by addressing their concerns.

Similarly, Lawmaker Sumitra BC directed the government’s attention toward infrastructure development, specifically calling for the expedited construction of the Bhurigaun–Telpani road, a key route connecting three provinces.

Lawmakers collectively urged the government to treat the situation with urgency, recognizing that the future of students across the country hinges on the swift and fair resolution of the ongoing education crisis.
