KATHMANDU: Bheri Hospital has suspended all non-emergency services on Sunday and Monday following a fire outbreak in its medical store on Saturday.

According to Dr. Nirajan Subedi, the hospital’s Medical Superintendent, the fire caused significant damage to the OPD building, medical store, and pharmacy.

As a result, outpatient department (OPD) consultations and laboratory services have been halted for two days to allow for clean-up and safety inspections.

“The fire started due to an electrical short circuit in a refrigerator used to store vaccines,” Dr. Subedi said. “We estimate the damage to be around Rs 30 to 40 million.”

Emergency services, however, will continue to operate as usual during this period.

The hospital’s medical store, located within the OPD building, stored daily essential medical supplies.

The full extent of the damage is still being assessed.
