KATHMANDU: The Sindur Jatra, an integral part of the annual celebrations in Gokarneshwor, Kathmandu, has come to a grand conclusion today.

The procession, marking the culmination of the Shree Kanti Bhairav Jatra, started from the day of Vaishakha Krishna Chaturdashi and has been an enduring cultural spectacle for locals and visitors alike.

This traditional event, which takes place every year, is believed to have been initiated during the reign of King Manadeva.

The Jatra commemorates the visit of Lord Bhairav to his mother’s home on the occasion of Vaishakha Krishna Amavasya (the dark moon of Vaishakha).

The festival begins with a ceremonial procession at dawn, where Lord Bhairav’s idol, or Khat, is carried to the Kanti Bhairavi Temple, the residence of his mother.

The celebrations continue until the day of Akshaya Tritiya, when the idol is taken back from the temple, signaling the end of the Jatra.

As a part of the grand finale, the Sindur Jatra is performed when the son (Lord Bhairav) is bid farewell by his mother.

This symbolic gesture is an important ritual that reflects the deep spiritual and cultural connection between the deity and his devotees.

The event is not only a significant religious occasion but also a celebration of local heritage, drawing large crowds each year.
