Woman dies after falling down waterfall in eastern Australia

SYDNEY: A woman died after falling down a waterfall in a national park in eastern Australia on Friday afternoon.
Authorities said on Saturday that emergency services were called to Mapleton Falls National Park, about 95 kilometers north of Brisbane in Australia’s state of Queensland, about 3:30 p.m. local time on Friday, Australia’s 9News network reported.
Ambulance paramedics arrived at the scene and found a 36-year-old woman with significant injuries in a life-threatening condition after she fell 80 meters down a waterfall.
She was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.
An 18-year-old male who was with the woman at the time suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital in a stable condition.
The national park is in Queensland’s Sunshine Coast region, which experienced torrential rain on Thursday night that caused flash flooding.
The incident marks the third death at a waterfall in the Sunshine Coast in 2025.
