Govt–teachers’ talks end without deal, dialogue to continue

KATHMANDU: The meeting held today between the government and protesting teachers concluded without a concrete agreement, though both sides agreed to continue dialogue.
The discussion took place at the Ministry of Education in Singha Durbar under the presence of Education Minister Raghuji Panta.
According to Laxmi Kishor Subedi, President of the Nepal Teachers’ Federation, the union clearly presented its demands during the meeting. “Our primary stance is the implementation of a progressive School Education Act. We will not back down under any circumstances,” Subedi asserted.
Though both parties expressed commitment to continue discussions in the coming days, no date was set for the next meeting.
A teacher leader present in the talks stated that the lack of immediate consensus stemmed from the Federation’s firm stance on its demands.
Meanwhile, Minister Pant assured that he had taken the teachers’ concerns seriously and pledged to do everything in his power to address them.
Despite the formal conclusion of today’s talks without resolution, both the government and the agitating teachers have left the door open for continued dialogue, signaling hope for progress in the near future.
