KATHMANDU: Widespread protests and shutdowns erupted across India following the recent deadly terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, that claimed 26 lives—including one Nepali citizen—and left many others injured.
On Friday, traders in Delhi called for a complete shutdown of markets under the banner of ‘Delhi Bandh’, expressing solidarity with the victims and demanding swift action against terrorism.
Several prominent markets across the capital, including Khan Market, remained closed, with merchants holding candlelight vigils in tribute to the deceased.
Peaceful demonstrations were reported from multiple cities nationwide. In Bhubaneswar, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) held a protest rally on Thursday evening. Speaking at the event, BJP Odisha State President Manmohan Samal reiterated the government’s firm commitment to eradicating terrorism from the country.
In Anantnag, students of the government school Syams organized a silent march, denouncing the attack and appealing for peace. In Chandigarh, residents gathered with placards, demanding justice for the victims and calling for stronger national security.
Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh witnessed a solemn candle-lighting ceremony in memory of the deceased, while BJP workers in Bhopal, led by state party chief and MP VD Sharma, held a tribute gathering.
Sharma affirmed the nation’s unity in the fight against terrorism, declaring that the attackers would not go unpunished.
This incident draws chilling parallels to the 2019 Pulwama terror attack, which killed 40 CRPF personnel.
The latest Pahalgam attack, which occurred last week, has reignited national outrage and calls for enhanced counter-terrorism measures.
