Pun accuses govt. of protecting brokers, failing to act in 10 months

KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Centre) Deputy General Secretary Barsha Man Pun has accused the government of protecting middlemen and engaging in political vendettas instead of delivering results, even after ten months in power.
Speaking at Friday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Pun alleged that regulatory bodies like the Securities Board and the Insurance Authority have witnessed politically motivated appointments. He further claimed that interest groups are clearly maneuvering to appoint their representatives to key positions, including the Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank.
“It’s as clear as daylight—the way interest groups are working behind the scenes to place their own people in powerful regulatory roles,” said Pun.
He expressed frustration over criticisms that Maoist Centre leaders were speaking out of disappointment after being removed from government, asserting instead that the public across Nepal is increasingly seeing the current government as one serving brokers, intermediaries, and vested interests.
“For the past 10 months, the government has done nothing but protect brokers and settle political scores with opposition leaders. This isn’t just our concern—people in homes and public spaces across the country are calling this a government of middlemen and special interest groups,” he said.
Pun also questioned why the Prime Minister and ministers have yet to make their property details public, asking, “What’s so difficult about transparency, Government?”
