Home Minister urges disaster-resilient infrastructure ahead of potential earthquakes

KATHMANDU: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has emphasized the necessity of constructing personal residences and development projects in a way that they can withstand disasters like earthquakes.
Speaking at the Earthquake Remembrance Day event in Kathmandu’s Dharahara on Friday, Minister Lekhak highlighted the importance of building structures that are capable of withstanding natural disasters.
He stressed the need to avoid unnecessary interference with nature and cautioned against provoking disasters.
Lekhak stated that creating quality physical infrastructure to withstand potential disasters, including earthquakes, is a critical requirement today.
He urged everyone to work with the mindset that earthquakes could strike at any time.
The Minister also assured that the government is actively working to mitigate the damages caused by potential disasters.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to facing any disaster and mentioned that the upcoming fiscal year’s budget will focus on empowering local levels to better handle disasters like earthquakes.
