SAFF Championship postponed to 2026
The SAFF made the announcement on Thursday, stating that the tournament has been deferred to allow for better preparation and organization.

KATHMANDU: The 15th edition of the SAFF (South Asian Football Federation) Championship, originally scheduled for June 25 to July 5, 2025, in Sri Lanka, has been postponed to 2026.
The SAFF made the announcement on Thursday, stating that the tournament has been deferred to allow for better preparation and organization.
The competition was set to be held in a home-and-away format, but further logistical arrangements were deemed necessary by both the member associations and Sports Five, the tournament’s marketing partner.
According to SAFF, the postponement aims to ensure the tournament is conducted in a grand and smooth manner.
The federation emphasized the importance of selecting an appropriate time and venue, especially since 2026 is a FIFA World Cup year.
Despite being a biennial tournament, the SAFF Championship has struggled to maintain a consistent schedule. Nepal, a regular participant, has never lifted the trophy.
Reaching the final once remains the country’s best performance in the tournament’s history.
