Traffic cops caught beating youth, probe underway

KATHMANDU: A disturbing video showing a group of traffic police officers brutally assaulting a young man has gone viral on social media.

In the footage, five officers can be seen repeatedly beating the youth, with one of them stomping on his face with a boot.

The video also shows an officer throwing the victim’s documents onto the ground while casually walking away.

Although the exact time and location of the incident have not been confirmed, visual cues suggest it may have taken place in the Kathmandu Valley. The presence of heavy traffic and a bus bearing the name “Kirtipur Yatayat” supports this assumption, though authorities have not yet verified it.

The central office of the Traffic Police has acknowledged the incident and stated that an investigation is already underway.

A high-ranking official confirmed to Makalu Khabar that the video is being thoroughly reviewed and assured that appropriate action will be taken against those found guilty.

“We have received the video and launched a detailed investigation,” the official said. “Strict action will be taken against the culprits following a fair and transparent inquiry.”
