KATHMANDU: On the occasion of Democracy Day, Acting President of the Nepali Congress, Purna Bahadur Khadka, emphasized that only democracy ensures the rights of all citizens and called for collective efforts to protect and uphold it.
In his Democracy Day message today, Khadka paid tribute to the courage, determination, and sacrifice of the nation’s heroic warriors, urging everyone to pledge not to let the hard-won democratic system weaken.
He stressed the importance of remaining vigilant and aware in order to preserve the values and principles of democracy.
Recalling the long history of struggle that began before 2007 B.S., Khadka highlighted the historic people’s movement of 2062/63 B.S., led by the Nepali Congress in collaboration with other political forces, which ultimately ended the autocratic monarchy and brought about a transformative change in the country on Baisakh 11, 2063 B.S.
He honored the martyrs who laid down their lives for national sovereignty and citizens’ rights, offering heartfelt tributes to their dedication and bravery.
With the promulgation and implementation of the Constitution of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal through the Constituent Assembly, Khadka noted that the responsibility now lies with all citizens to strengthen the rights granted by the constitution and lead the country towards economic prosperity.
Marking Baisakh 11 as a historic day of transformation, he called on all citizens to celebrate it each year with pride as Democracy Day.
