KATHMANDU: The construction of the Gautam Buddha International Cricket Stadium, underway in Bharatpur Metropolitan City-15, has reached 20% completion.

The stadium is being built under a collaborative effort between the federal and provincial governments, led by the metropolitan city.

Following the withdrawal of the Dhurmus-Suntali Foundation from the project, Bharatpur Metropolitan City took ownership and resumed the construction.

The contract was awarded to Himalayan Kalinchowk BBR JV, which is currently undertaking the work.

According to Santosh Acharya, the division engineer at the metropolis, the concrete foundation for one of the four planned parapets has been completed.

Preparations for the next foundation and the first-floor slab of both towers are currently underway.

Acharya stated that over 170 workers are engaged daily from 8 AM to 9 PM on-site.

While occasional shortages of steel rods and cement have posed challenges, efforts are ongoing to ensure a steady supply and maintain progress.

Construction officially began last Shrawan, and the project is scheduled to be completed by 22 Poush 2083 under a contract worth Rs 785,091,189.

The contract agreement was signed on Asar 23 with the federal government contributing Rs 250 million and the provincial government providing Rs 100 million to date.

The funding model allocates 70% from the province and 30% from the federal government.

The stadium is being built to international standards, and once the first phase is completed, it will be capable of hosting international matches.

The stadium is being constructed on 20 bighas and 19 kaththas of land registered under Tribhuvan University, which is currently being used by the Agriculture and Forestry University.

Due to high temperatures in the region, the metropolitan city has requested the federal government to install lighting systems to facilitate evening and night-time matches.

Metropolitan City Mayor Renu Dahal stated that construction is progressing as per the agreement timeline and expressed confidence that the project will be completed within the stipulated period.

She also affirmed that the metropolis is providing all necessary coordination for the successful execution of the project.
