Ward Chair Bista dies under mysterious circumstances

KATHMANDU: Janak Singh Bista, Ward Chairperson of Bedkot Municipality-9 in Kanchanpur, has died under mysterious circumstances.
He was found unconscious in a forest near Bedkot Lake on Wednesday afternoon and was rushed to Mahakali Hospital, where he passed away during treatment in the evening.
According to Kanchanpur Police Chief SP Chakraraj Joshi, the cause of death appears suspicious and is under investigation.
Preliminary findings suggest Bista may have ingested poison, and a search is underway near the site for related substances.
A day before his death, Bista had posted a deeply emotional status titled “Pain Behind the Smile” on Facebook, raising questions about his mental state.
On the morning of the incident, Bista had distributed social security allowances in the ward before leaving on his motorcycle for work, assigning responsibilities to ward member Parvati Bista.
A retired Nepal Army personnel, Bista was elected as a ward member in 2074 and later as ward chairperson in 2079.
His untimely demise has cast a shadow of grief over local representatives and the community.
