Heatwave alert: Rising temperatures grip Nepal
This warming trend is expected to impact various sectors, including public health, agriculture, and daily life.

KATHMANDU: A partial influence of the local wind system is currently active over Nepal, according to meteorologists, contributing to a noticeable rise in both minimum and maximum temperatures across the country.
This warming trend is expected to impact various sectors, including public health, agriculture, and daily life.
While most parts of the country are experiencing clear weather, the hilly regions of Koshi and Gandaki provinces have reported partly cloudy skies.
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has indicated that the weather will remain mostly stable in the coming days, but temperatures are forecasted to rise further nationwide.
The mid-western and western Tarai regions are likely to experience intense heat, with daytime temperatures expected to climb well above average.
As a result, the DHM has advised local residents to remain alert and take precautionary measures to minimize heat-related risks.
In particular, the public is urged to:
-
Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
-
Avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours, especially in the afternoon.
-
Step outside only during the early morning or late evening hours.
-
Keep an eye on children, the elderly, and vulnerable groups who are more susceptible to heat stress.
Farmers are also advised to take early preventive actions to mitigate potential negative impacts on crops due to the changing weather conditions.
Meanwhile, isolated areas in the hilly terrain of Koshi and Gandaki may witness thunder and lightning.
The DHM has cautioned residents to stay indoors during such events, avoid open spaces, and handle electrical appliances with care during storms.
As climate variability continues to shape daily life, the DHM has emphasized the importance of staying updated through official channels and making informed decisions based on verified forecasts.
