KATHMANDU: In response to the recent deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, the Indian government has taken a firm stance against Pakistan, announcing a series of stringent measures following a high-level security meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday.

The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), which included Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, made six decisive moves aimed at pressuring Pakistan.

Key decisions announced include:

All Pakistani nationals in India have been ordered to leave the country within 48 hours.

Pakistani diplomats have been given a seven-day deadline to return to Islamabad.

The number of staff at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi will be reduced from 55 to 30.

All categories of visas issued to Pakistani citizens have been revoked.

The Attari–Wagah border crossing will be closed until further notice.

The historic Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan has been suspended.

These developments follow a terror attack on Tuesday in the Baisaran area of Pahalgam, where 27 tourists lost their lives.

Reports from international media claim the attackers identified victims by their religion before executing them.

In the aftermath of the attack, emergency meetings were held from Srinagar to Delhi, with the Indian government labeling the situation as extremely serious.

A nationwide all-party meeting has been scheduled for Thursday to deliberate on the national response.

India’s strong measures are expected to escalate tensions in South Asian diplomatic relations, with observers warning of increased instability in the region.
