PAHALGAM, Jammu & Kashmir: Known for its breathtaking beauty and tranquil valleys, Pahalgam turned into a scene of horror on April 22, 2025, as a brutal terrorist attack claimed the lives of 28 tourists, including a newlywed couple.

Among the victims was 26-year-old Lieutenant Vinay Narwal of the Indian Navy, who had arrived in Pahalgam’s Baisaran Valley with his wife to celebrate their honeymoon after tying the knot on April 16.

What was meant to be a journey of love and new beginnings ended in tragedy when terrorists opened fire on a group of tourists.

According to eyewitnesses, Vinay shielded his wife from the hail of bullets and saved her life, but was fatally shot in the process.

A haunting image of his distraught wife sitting beside his body has gone viral on social media, drawing emotional reactions from across the country.

“He was our pride,” said a grieving family member from their home in Karnal, Haryana. “He saved his wife, but we couldn’t save him.”

The Resistance Front (TRF), a group affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the attack. Reports state that the assailants asked tourists their names and religions before opening fire indiscriminately.

Victims included nationals from the UAE and Nepal, adding an international dimension to the tragedy.

The nation has reacted with shock and anger.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini, and several celebrities have condemned the attack and offered condolences.
