KATHMANDU: National Assembly member Bamdev Gautam has strongly advocated for the complete nationalization of land across Nepal, stating it is the only way to ensure systematic development of the country.

Speaking at a meeting of the Development, Economic Affairs, and Good Governance Committee under the National Assembly on Tuesday, Gautam emphasized that without bringing all land under state ownership, planned and sustainable national progress is impossible.

“The entire land of Nepal must be nationalized first,” Gautam said. “Only then can we sit down and plan for development—be it drinking water, schools, or infrastructure. Until we are capable of implementing such comprehensive plans, development will remain a dream.”

He also criticized the ongoing tendency to only engage in discussions without action, stating that such talks no longer help solve Nepal’s pressing basic needs.

Gautam even proposed a bold accountability mechanism: requiring anyone aspiring to become Prime Minister to publicly pledge that if they fail to deliver results, they will do sit-ups holding their ears 100 times as a form of apology to the people.

“If they cannot solve the country’s problems, they do not deserve to lead,” he asserted.

Gautam further argued that the concept of private land ownership should be permanently abolished in Nepal to ensure equitable access and planned national development.
