KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has urged residents not to burn waste in open spaces, citing serious health hazards caused by smoke, especially from plastic materials.

According to Sarita Rai, head of KMC’s Environment Management Department, smoke from such waste can severely impact public health, particularly affecting children, the elderly, and people with respiratory or heart conditions.

She requested residents to properly dispose of all types of waste through the vehicles that collect garbage on behalf of the metropolis.

Rai also called on industries and factories to strictly comply with the “Pollution Control Standards 2081” to minimize environmental damage.
