Indian Minister Khattar arrives in Nepal for two-day official visit

KATHMANDU: India’s Minister for Power, Housing, and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, has arrived in Nepal on a two-day official visit at the invitation of Nepal’s Energy Minister, Deepak Khadka.

Khattar was welcomed at Tribhuvan International Airport by officials from Nepal’s Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, alongside representatives from the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.

The invitation was extended by Minister Khadka during his official visit to India on Feb 12.

During his stay, Minister Khattar will jointly inaugurate the 220 kV Inaruwa–Basantapur–Baneshwar–Tumlingtar transmission line, and the substations at Tumlingtar, Baneshwar, and Basantpur, all constructed with the support of the Indian government.

The inauguration ceremony will be held at the Tumlingtar substation in Sankhuwasabha.

He will also inspect the powerhouse and dam site of the Arun III Hydropower Project, a major India-Nepal collaboration.

Additionally, a bilateral agreement is scheduled to be signed regarding the establishment of a Nepal-India joint transmission line development company.

On April 23, Minister Khattar will visit the sacred Muktinath Temple in Mustang.

He is also set to pay courtesy calls on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Deputy Prime Minister and Urban Development Minister Prakash Man Singh.

His visit will conclude with an evening pilgrimage to the Pashupatinath Temple before departing for India.
