Indian national caught with undisclosed cash

KATHMANDU: Police in Rautahat arrested an Indian national on Sunday night in possession of a large sum of money without valid documentation.
The suspect was made public on Monday.
According to DSP Deepak Kumar Raya of the District Police Office, 23-year-old Rajkishore Thakur of Musahariya, Ward No. 8, Kharaha Chainpur, Kundwa Chainpur Gram Panchayat, Motihari, Bihar, was arrested during a routine check at Patharabudhram in Maulapur-6.
He was found carrying Rs 1 million hidden inside a bag under the seat of a motorcycle bearing Indian registration number BR 05 AC 9477.
The amount consisted of 600 notes of Rs 1,000 denomination and 800 notes of Rs 500.
Thakur was reportedly entering Nepal from India when police conducted the search and seized the money.
“We asked him to produce documents explaining the source of the funds, but he failed to provide any,” said DSP Raya. “We have taken him into custody for further investigation.”
Police also seized his mobile phone and identification documents.
Authorities have expressed concern over the recent rise in the smuggling of undisclosed and counterfeit currency across the border, often using pedestrians, bicycles, or motorcycles.
