15 new services to be added & expanded at 8 federal hospitals

KATHMANDU: The Government of Nepal is set to introduce and expand 15 healthcare services across eight federal hospitals as part of an ongoing effort to strengthen the public health system.

According to the Ministry’s spokesperson, Dr. Prakash Budhathoki, the additions are part of a broader policy to upgrade services at federal hospitals.
The services to be added or expanded throughout the month of Baisakh have been made public.
Under this plan:

Bir Hospital will expand its Surgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) services with the addition of nine new ICU beds. This is scheduled for the second week of Baisakh.

Bharatpur Hospital will launch a Cath Lab service and introduce several new units including a Burn Ward, Simulation Lab, Infertility Clinic, Lactation Management Unit, and a Cadaver Lab by the end of Baisakh.

Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital is set to start its Pediatric ICU and Pediatric Ward services in the second week of Baisakh.

Bheri Hospital will begin offering Kidney Transplant Services, also from the second week of Baisakh.

Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences will add 20 new beds to its Emergency Ward by the end of Baisakh.

Narayani Hospital, Birgunj, is preparing to launch Cath Lab services by the end of the month.

G.P. Koirala National Respiratory Treatment Center, Tanahun, will start Hemodialysis Services in the third week of Baisakh.

Geta Hospital, Dhangadhi, will simultaneously begin operating its Modular Operation Theater (OT), Emergency Ward, and Oxygen Plant in the third week of Baisakh.
In the previous month of Chaitra, 12 federal hospitals had also initiated or expanded certain healthcare services.
Spokesperson Dr. Budhathoki emphasized that service upgrades and expansions are actively underway across federal hospitals and will continue within the current fiscal year.
“Some services have already been launched, while others are in progress. This is in line with the Health Minister’s vision to improve and expand healthcare services nationwide,” he said.
