KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) staged a protest in Kathmandu on Sunday, calling for the reinstatement of the monarchy along with other demands.

The demonstration turned tense after party leaders and supporters entered a restricted zone. As a result, RPP President Rajendra Lingden, lawmaker Gyanendra Shahi, and several other MPs were detained by the police.

During the rally, RPP leaders and cadres voiced strong opposition to the federal democratic republic, chanting slogans in favor of the monarchy and against the current system of governance.

Despite the party’s vocal stance, the protest saw only a modest turnout.

Interestingly, the number of security personnel deployed appeared to outnumber the demonstrators.

RPP continues to position itself as a key monarchist force in Nepal’s political landscape, advocating for a return to traditional governance structures.
