KATHMANDU: Female Community Health Volunteers (FCHVs) in Kanchanpur have begun administering Vitamin A supplements and deworming tablets to children by visiting households directly, ensuring no child is left out of the national health campaign.

Under the nationwide initiative, Vitamin A is being given to children aged six months to five years, while deworming tablets are being administered to children aged one to under five years.

The campaign is being conducted over two days, from April 19 to 20.

According to Khagendra Karki, Information Officer at the Kanchanpur Health Office, the district has set a target of reaching 37,554 children with Vitamin A and 33,046 children with deworming tablets.

“On the first day of the campaign, distribution took place at immunization centers and designated sites,” Karki said. “Today, our Female Community Health Volunteers are visiting homes to reach children who were unable to attend the centers.”

Raju Rana, a Female Community Health Volunteer from Ward 11 of Shuklaphanta Municipality, Kaluwapur, said she began visiting households early in the morning. “Only a few children came to the center,” she noted. “We are now going door-to-door to reach those who missed it.”

The government has been running the Vitamin A campaign as a national program since 1993 (2050 BS) and has been distributing deworming tablets since 1999 (2056 BS) to protect children’s health and improve nutrition.
