KATHMANDU: Chairperson of the main opposition party, CPN (Maoist Centre), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has dismissed claims that Nepal’s republican system is under threat.

Speaking to journalists at Biratnagar Airport on Sunday, he emphasized the need for unity among political parties and asserted that the republic is secure.

“The republic is not in danger,” Prachanda said. “We were part of this system before, and we are still part of it now.”

When asked about the potential political return of former Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prachanda clarified that there are no constitutional or legal barriers preventing his comeback. “If he wishes to return to politics, there is nothing stopping him,” he stated.

Prachanda also denied recent speculations about his party joining or supporting the current ruling coalition. Referring to a meeting among three top leaders held on Saturday in Baluwatar, he said, “Just because a meeting took place does not imply any form of support. That’s a complete misunderstanding.”

He made it clear that the Maoist Centre neither supports the current coalition nor has any intention of joining it in the foreseeable future.

Prachanda is scheduled to attend two major events in Biratnagar today and is expected to return to Kathmandu in the evening.
