Key royalist figure arrested over violent protest in Tinkune

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested a key suspect involved in the violent royalist-led protest that took place in Tinkune on March 28 (Chaitra 15).

Santosh Kumar Silwal, widely known as “Santosh Rajawadi,” was taken into custody by a team from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) on Thursday night from Mahadevsthan, Koteshwor.

According to police, 34-year-old Silwal was actively involved in the group that attempted to breach the prohibited zone during the protest.

He has since been handed over to the District Police Range, Kathmandu, for further investigation.

The protest, organized by pro-monarchy demonstrators, turned violent with widespread vandalism and arson targeting political party offices, shopping complexes, and other public and private properties in Tinkune.

One protester and one security personnel lost their lives during the clash with police.

Following the incident, authorities intensified surveillance and launched a crackdown to identify those involved.

Silwal was arrested from a relative’s residence in Ward-32 of Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

District Police Range spokesperson SP Apilraj Bohara stated that the investigation has gained momentum.

Over 200 individuals were initially detained for questioning, with many later released after screening.

So far, court orders have been obtained to proceed with investigations against 82 suspects.
