KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairperson and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ visited the ancient site of Tilaurakot in Kapilvastu, believed to be the historical home of Siddhartha Gautam Buddha.

During the visit, he stressed the need to prioritize the preservation, prosperity, and tourism development of this culturally significant site.

As part of a broader campaign focused on the Hulaki Highway, Prachanda has been touring various religious, historical, and cultural sites across the Terai region. “We are conducting detailed studies and assessments of the potential of each area in the Terai, especially from tourism and cultural perspectives,” he stated.

Highlighting the direct link between Tilaurakot and the early life of Buddha, he emphasized that the government must take serious steps towards its promotion and infrastructure development.

Historical records suggest that Buddha spent his childhood and youth in this area. It was here he lived his royal life, got married, and eventually left in search of enlightenment.

Prachanda’s visit has once again brought attention to Tilaurakot’s historical significance.

His remarks have sparked renewed optimism among locals, who hope for greater conservation efforts and tourism-driven development in the region.
