KATHMANDU: Chairperson of the Nepal Teachers’ Federation, Laxmi Kishore Subedi, has said there has been a significant rise in the number of teachers participating in the ongoing protest movement.
He made the remarks through a social media post on Friday morning.
Expressing gratitude for the growing enthusiasm towards the protest, Suvedi stated that the overwhelming support has energized the leadership. “We are proud of yesterday’s participation,” he said. “It has made us even stronger. Let us once again show our solidarity by gathering at Maitighar Mandala today at exactly 12 noon.”
Suvedi mentioned that the movement is now nearing success and stressed the need for greater discipline, dignity, and restraint during this critical phase. “Let us stay calm and composed for a few more days. Our victory is certain,” he asserted. He also warned, “If the movement turns aggressive, it could harm our cause. There are elements trying to incite unrest whose identities may not be easily recognized.”
He urged all participants to maintain a peaceful and dignified presence, while also sharing equal responsibility in maintaining cleanliness and security at the protest sites.
The Federation has been organizing a series of educational protests on the streets of Kathmandu since April 2.
The movement intensified further with the launch of a general educational strike starting April 7.
