KATHMANDU: After a sluggish start to the season, Mumbai Indians have finally found their rhythm in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
On Thursday, they secured a thrilling 4-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium, marking their second consecutive win in the tournament.
Batting first, Sunrisers Hyderabad set a target of 163 runs after posting 162 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs.
Abhishek Sharma led the charge with a quick-fire 40 off 28 balls, including 7 boundaries.
Heinrich Klaasen contributed 37 runs, while Travis Head added 28.
Nitish Kumar Reddy (19) and Aniket Verma (18* not out) provided late support.
In reply, Mumbai chased down the target in 18.1 overs, losing six wickets along the way. Opener Ryan Rickelton laid a steady foundation with 31 runs, while Rohit Sharma (26), Will Jacks (36), Suryakumar Yadav (26), and Tilak Varma (21* not out) all chipped in with valuable contributions.
However, it was skipper Hardik Pandya’s explosive cameo that sealed the win.
Coming in at a crunch moment, Pandya smashed 21 runs off just 9 balls, including three fours and a six, to guide his team home in style.
Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins was impressive with the ball, claiming 3 wickets for just 26 runs in his four overs.
For Mumbai, Will Jacks picked up 2 wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, and Hardik Pandya took one apiece.
With this win, Mumbai Indians climbed to seventh in the points table with 6 points, while Sunrisers Hyderabad slipped to ninth with 4 points.
