KATHMANDU: Google is rolling out a new update to Google Play Services that adds an automatic reboot feature for Android phones and tablets that remain locked for three consecutive days.

As reported by GSM Arena, this new security measure is designed to safeguard user data by triggering a reboot that places the device into a “Before First Unlock” state.

In this mode, all data remains encrypted and significantly harder to access without the correct passcode.

After three days of inactivity with the device locked, it will automatically restart, requiring the user to unlock it using their passcode.

This move is intended to prevent unauthorized access to personal and sensitive information.

The feature is similar to Apple’s “Inactivity Reboot,” introduced in iOS 18.1, which also restarts idle devices to enhance security.

Labeled as version 25.14, the latest Google Play Services update is gradually rolling out to Android devices.

However, the feature will not be available on Wear OS smartwatches.
