KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has emphasized the importance of using civil language while expressing opinions in public discourse.

Addressing the General Convention of the Nepal National Ex-Army and Police Organization, a people’s organization affiliated with the CPN-UML, held in Kathmandu, PM Oli remarked that political expression should be conducted respectfully.

He highlighted that the CPN-UML had played a key role in guiding conflicting parties toward peaceful politics through democratic competition, rather than violence.

PM Oli claimed that the UML had previously won elections through its ideology and formed a majority government, achieving significant milestones. He argued that violence erupts only when people are oppressed and their rights are taken away.

“Before the conflict began, the UML had already won elections, formed a single-party government, and carried out historic works. Fearing those achievements and sensing a threat to their own existence, others conspired to remove the UML from power,” Oli said.

He also stated that the government has now taken steps to deliver justice to conflict victims through the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons, although political reasons had previously delayed progress.
