KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has demolished scrap collection centers operating from Chyasal Bridge to Balkumari Bridge using bulldozers.
According to Metropolitan Police Force Superintendent Dinesh Aryal, the action was taken because the centers were operating within residential areas.
Despite repeated complaints from locals and prior notices issued by the metropolis, the operators continued their activities, prompting the city to take direct action.
Dozens of municipal police personnel, along with bulldozers, were deployed for the operation. During the demolition, two workers hurled stones in protest, shattering the windshield of a bulldozer.
Both individuals involved in the incident have been taken into custody.
The metropolis stated that such illegal operations within residential zones will not be tolerated.
