KATHMANDU: Chairperson of the CPN (Maoist Centre), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, has said that the Hulaki Highway Awareness Campaign has reinforced his party’s decision to stay out of government until 2084 BS.

Speaking at a press conference in Rupandehi on Thursday, Prachanda, who is also a former Prime Minister, stated that he has no intention of repeating past mistakes by rushing back into government. He emphasized that growing public trust in the Maoist Centre is the reason they are not in a hurry for power.

Prachanda claimed his government was toppled due to his strong stance against corruption and land mafia. “Had I abandoned the anti-corruption campaign or protected certain corrupt individuals, I could have continued in power with the backing of Nepali Congress or UML,” he asserted.

He remarked, “We are seeing thousands of people emotionally returning to trust the Maoist Centre and its leadership. This has deepened our sense of responsibility and strengthened our commitment to not enter the government until 2084. Some might think we’re eager for power—but that’s not the case. We’re not going to repeat the same mistake.”

Prachanda acknowledged that his party had delayed reaching the very communities and classes it once fought for, but expressed confidence that they are now on the right path.

He added that the ongoing campaign has made the party more self-aware of its past missteps and its renewed direction.
