Tension eases in Birgunj

KATHMANDU: The tension that arose in Birgunj Metropolitan City following a dispute between two communities during the Hanuman Jayanti procession last Saturday is gradually subsiding.
Thanks to the collective efforts of the local administration, political parties, and various sectors of society—along with the support and understanding of the local residents—the situation in the city has steadily returned to normal.
A multi-party meeting held on Wednesday, along with appeals from high-ranking officials, religious organizations, ward chairpersons of all 32 wards of the metropolitan city, the Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and civil society, emphasized the need to restore social harmony in the city.
Chief District Officer Ganesh Aryal expressed heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed to the restoration of peace and normalcy, citing the united efforts and goodwill of all sectors.
He also stated that initiatives are underway to return Birgunj to its state prior to the unrest on Chaitra 30.
CDO Aryal further informed that the prohibitory orders on rallies, protests, and public gatherings—imposed since Monday—would be lifted soon as the situation continues to improve.
