KATHMANDU: A 24-year-old woman from Jagatpur Donwari in Siraha’s Nawarajpur Municipality-3, Anande Devi Sada, has reportedly been sexually abused and died under suspicious circumstances.

Her family is preparing to file a complaint against the accused and local individuals who allegedly attempted to cover up the incident, as well as the police.

The two main accused in the case, 22-year-old Sanjeev Kumar Yadav and 32-year-old Shyam Sundar Yadav, have already been charged with attempted rape, with the case registered at the police station.

Additionally, Anandee’s family is preparing to file further complaints against Sanjeev’s father, Upendra Yadav, Shyam Sundar’s father, Shivdatta Yadav, local resident Narendra Yadav, and the officer in charge of the Maheshpur Patar Police Station, Police Inspector Rabindra Raj Mainali, as well as other involved police officers.

According to Sunil Sada, spokesperson for the National Musahar Federation of Nepal, the family and Dalit leaders are in discussions to file complaints under charges of inciting suicide and illegal settlement.

Sada emphasized that the situation has escalated from a case of sexual abuse to one where the victim was allegedly forced into taking her life. They are currently consulting with legal professionals before proceeding with the legal action.

Anandee was found dead by hanging at her home on Tuesday afternoon, around 3 p.m. Prior to her death, on Poush 9, she was reportedly subjected to a gang rape attempt by the two accused men.

Though a complaint was filed at the local police station the same day, the accused and the police allegedly pressured the victim’s family to settle the matter locally.

After the family threatened to go public, the case was officially registered only two and a half months later, on Falgun 25.

Despite the registration, the police have delayed the arrest of the accused, who remain at large.

After months of seeking justice without success, Anande, who had been under immense stress, was found dead, raising further suspicions about the circumstances surrounding her death.
