Police increase surveillance amid growing drug trade in Dharan

KATHMANDU: The police in Dharan have ramped up their monitoring efforts in response to an increase in the trafficking of cannabis.
In a recent operation, three individuals were arrested with 19 kilograms of cannabis in the city’s Ward No. 13, Aapgachi area.
The narcotics were seized by the temporary police post team from Amarhaat.
The drugs were discovered during a routine check of an auto-rickshaw (registration number: Ko 2 Ha 4739) traveling from Bhedetar, Dhankuta to Dharan. The authorities found the cannabis packed in 18 separate bags.
The arrested individuals are Jokbahadur Rai, 48, from Dharan-4, his son Suman Rai, 30, and Suraj Limbu, 36, from Sangurigadhi, Dhankuta.
The police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs (Control) Act and are conducting further investigations.
