16 injured in bus accident on East-West Highway

KATHMANDU: At least 16 passengers were injured in a bus accident early this morning along the East-West Highway in Sunachuri, Manahari Rural Municipality-6 of Makawanpur district.

The passenger bus, bearing registration number Lu 2 Kha 599, was en route from Itahari to Bhairahawa when it veered off the road and plunged approximately 10 meters downhill.

According to Shyamu Aryal, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Hetauda, the injured were immediately rescued and taken to hospitals in Chitwan for treatment.

The bus driver, 29-year-old Rakesh Chaudhary of Kolbi Municipality-11 in Bara district, has been taken into custody for further investigation.
