Three police officers punished for abusing youth at TIA

KATHMANDU: Three police personnel have been relieved of their duties following allegations of misconduct against a young man at Tribhuvan International Airport.
According to SSP Shekhar Khanal, spokesperson of the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, the officers were removed from their responsibilities today after being found guilty of mistreating a youth returning home on leave from foreign employment.
The incident took place on April 13 (Chaitra 31) when Sanjay Ojha from Morang, who had just returned from Dubai, was allegedly harassed by police after completing immigration and customs procedures at the airport.
Ojha reported that as he was exiting the airport with a luggage trolley, an employee verbally abused him over the issue of taking the trolley outside.
When he sought help from nearby police officers, they allegedly further mistreated him instead of offering assistance.
The video of the incident went viral on social media, sparking public outrage and prompting immediate investigation.
The involved officers have now been summoned to the Kathmandu Valley Police Office for further inquiry and disciplinary action is underway.
