Hari Banshaa Acharya breaks comedic mold with serious role in Bhuthan
After Balidan, this is his first time portraying a completely serious character.

KATHMANDU: Actor Hari Bansha Acharya is widely recognized for his humorous and satirical performances.
However, after receiving the National Film Award for Best Actor in 2079 B.S. for his role in the film Mahapurush, he has ventured into presenting art in roles that differ from his usual comedic portrayals.
Even at the age of 67, Acharya approaches his work with dedication, putting in the same effort as a new actor. In the film Bhuthan, he plays a character unlike his usual roles, where he is not seen making people laugh throughout the movie.
After Balidan, this is his first time portraying a completely serious character.
Acharya shared, “I always wanted to act as a person without humor, and this time that desire was fulfilled. In Mahapurush, I also tried to present myself differently, but the director kept me in a balanced portrayal. This time, though, I only laughed once throughout the film.”
While releasing the trailer of the film, Acharya recalled that playing a character according to the script was challenging for him, as it had been a while since he played such a role. However, the film’s storyline and theme attracted him to take it up.
“A true artist can never abandon a good story,” said Acharya. He continued, “During filming, the director asked me what I would do if I couldn’t go to Nepal. At first, I was a bit confused, but I conveyed that feeling in the film. Looking back, I think I did well.”
In the film, Acharya plays a character who travels from Bhuthan to America, a person who wishes to return to his home country but finds himself unable to. The film is based on this character’s journey.
Directed by Binod Paudel, the film also stars Hollywood actor Bruce Dern, Dayahang Rai, Anuradha Majumdar, Pooja Chand Lama, Richa Ghimire, and Joese Pandey. Bhutan is set to be released nationwide starting from Baisakh 12.
